MANILA, Philippines - PBA championship coach Yeng Guiiao believes it's only a matter of time before NLEX finally gets over the hump.
The Road Warriors have a promising core, led by Kevin Alas, Don Trollano and Calvin Ortana, and more than enough core to contend for a championship - something Guiao was unable to achieve after the two teams surprisingly announced they had parted ways.
"I think it's an arena where the camaraderie, chemistry and systems are already there," Guiao said at Power&Play.
"It's in a breakout position. If this team can progress or even play better without me, I'll be proud of it. I would be proud of that."
Guiao and NLEX ended their six-year partnership on Friday.
The multi-tasking mentor led the Road Warriors to several playoff appearances, including two semifinal appearances.
NLEX was eliminated from the 2022 Philippine Cup quarterfinals by Magnolia in Guiao's final meeting with the team.
